If you're shopping for a new digital camera you'll notice that there are lots of them to choose from, many of which are pretty affordable. I'm going to tell you some of the things to look for so you don't have to spend 3 hours at Amazon looking at the cameras figuring out which one will best suit your needs, like I did.
Megapixels (MP)
How many Megapixels your camera has will determine the quality of the photos you take, and the size you can print these photos without sacrificing the quality of the image. One Megapixel is one million pixels. For general picture taking you shouldn't need any more than 5-6 MP.
Shutter Speed
If you're going to be taking pictures of moving objects then you'll want a faster shutter speed. The faster your shutter speed the faster you'll be able to take the picture and with less blur.
LCD (Display)The LCD is used to frame your shots, view pictures, and access your digital cameras menus. Digital Cameras with bigger LCDs sometimes don't even have a view finder. The LCD will display 100% of the framed shot.
Internal Memory
Internal memory affects how many pictures or movies your digital camera will hold without a memory card. Most of the time digital cameras come with inadequate internal memory, so you should include a memory card in to your budget. Most cameras will only hold 10-20 pictures without the additional memory card. Memory cards are cheap, and for $20 you should be able to buy a card that will hold hundreds if not 1000+ pictures.
HP Photosmart M547v 6.2 MP
Me and my wife just recently purchased this digital camera. Our 16 month old daughter was too fast for our last digital camera and we could never get her looking at us. Now, with this camera, we don't have any problems at all because it even has built in video with audio.
We get really clear shots and easy viewing with the HP Photosmart M547. We can frame, review and edit our pictures on the bright 2.4" LCD. We take amazing quality pictures with the resolution of 6.2 Megapixels and it has 18x total zoom for taking pictures in the distance.
A great motion blur feature that works wonders when we're taking pictures of fast moving or wobbling objects and we can even remove red-eye in the camera before we even unload our pictures.
We paid $109.99 at Walmart for this camera about a month ago, but the
Amazon.com price for this item is only $94.00!Canon PowerShot A560 7.1MP
If the had the extra couple of dollars at the time, I probably would have gotten this camera. You can keep every face in your picture super-clear by pressing the shutter button half way down - then the camera will automatically locate everyones face and choose the best focal point for your picture - amazing!
The high resolution 2.5" LCD, 7.1 Megapixels and 14 different shooting modes will have you taking great pictures that are detailed enough for photo-quality for up to 15 x 20-inch prints. This digital camera also features 4 movie modes and can record up to an hour or 4 Gigabytes.
The PowerShot A560 frees you to capture your precious moments as unforgettable images. It's loaded with easy to use features and is made for anyone who doesn't want complexity to get in the way of your photography.
This camera is currently $127.00 at Amazon, the best deal I've been able to find.
Good Luck Finding Your Camera!

Whether you're looking for your first digital camera, or an upgrade from your current one like I was, I hope some of this information will help you find the best camera to suit your needs.
